Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Since today is St. Patrick's Day and I really have nothing interesting to blog about I thought I would share old scanned pictures that have green in them. First though, here's a little history about this holiday which encourages the consumption of BEER!

I found the folloing informationi here.
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast—on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

So why does everyone wear green on St. Patrick's Day? I consulted with Wikipedia for the answer to my question.

Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the colour green and its association with Saint Patrick's day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century. He is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a ubiquitous feature of the day. In the 1798 rebellion, in hopes of making a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching public attention. The phrase "the wearing of the green", meaning to wear a shamrock on one's clothing, derives from a song of the same name.

Wow! Blue? I had no idea!

Okay, here are the old pictures I promised.  Check out that ADORABLE baby! Her name is Amber. Isn't she sooooooo cute?! I think she might be the world's cutest baby!

This baby's name is John. He's my dad. I'm sure he's been put in that cage for some unjust reason. Just look at him. "I'm innocent!"

Where did those awful green leotards come from? Those poor girls! These are my sisters sitting on my great grandpa's lap. I'm so glad we are oblivious to the horrible outfits we wear as a child.

Nice pants Jacque! Personally, I think the one in the middle is the best looking and most fashionable one of the bunch.

My mom. I'm not sure how old she was here, but I love this picture.

Oh look! There's that incredibly fashionable, good-looking, and well-behaved little girl again in the background!

Question: Weren't those thigh rolls supposed to go away?

Well, there goes my chance of ever becoming Miss USA.

Wow! My great grandparents had a green kitchen!

My grandpa looked pretty good in green... and look! It's that incredibly adorable baby again!

I really can't help it! My mom holding the world's cutest baby... ever!

There's my mom with her brother and sister. Wasn't she so cute?!

Okay, okay! Stop shouting. I know you want to see one more picture of the world's cutest baby... ever, again, but this is the last one! "It's so hard being this beautiful."

 Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

Hahahaha! I And love your commentary. And seriously, how is it that I am always in the most fashionable outfits? I may have used up all my good taste in my toddler years.
Thank you for posting this Amber. I love the pictures. Especially the one of Jac and I with Great Grandpa
